Wheat belt

After fleeing Burma as a child during the war, living in India, migrating to Australia and settling in Perth, Valerie married a farmer and moved to the western Australian wheat belt. During that period, which was at times difficult – due to being far from her family and being knee deep in small children, she worked a lot in pastels. These were easy to work on and clean up , were quick to achieve in small snatches of time and gave a satisfying burst of colour. Many of the works from that time capture paddocks, sheds and houses that were her new vistas.
